Participants will be welcome to practise together with others in the group conducting sessions. There will also be opportunities for practical conducting alone in front of the group and all participants will be encouraged to form a choir for this purpose and for demonstration purposes.

An innovative methodology to empower conductors and singers in rock/pop/jazz vocal music, proposed by Jim Daus Hjernøe, professor in charge of this methodology in The Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg and Aarhus and artistic director of VoxNorth.
Singing creates a close, independent connection between the singers and enables them to open their hearts to one another activity with and for the benefit of the community makes up a significant part of the Moran Choir’s life and work. The presentation will share the Moran Choir methodology in the development of musical excellence as a mean of helping underprivileged populations integrate into the mainstream is a predominant social goal. All four of our choirs: the Little‐ones Choir, Youth Choir, Moran Choir and Moran Singers Ensemble combine outstanding singing with a variety of community activities undertaken.
Conductors are trained to lead either a rehearsal OR a concert. But how can you lead an Open Singing – this strange mixture of concert AND rehearsal? How do you deal with the manifold expectations and types of participants? What kind of repertoire is recommended? What are methods, strategies and organisational key points?
The new song book „Sing along!“ by Michael Gohl and Jan Schumacher does not only provide a wide range of suitable songs, it also contains a full basket of tips and tricks. In this workshop Michael Gohl will also make references to the daily Open Singings in the festival.
In this workshop Wilma and Panda will demonstrate how your children’s choir can sing on stage without a conductor by breathing together, using movements, some choreography and ….trust!

Gabriel Jackson talks to his publisher, Griselda Sherlaw-Johnson (Oxford University Press), about his choral compositions. He explores how composing for choirs across the world, and how the different choral traditions and styles of choirs, affect his writing. Musical examples will be made available and recordings will be played to introduce delegates to his expressive and rich sound-world.

‘Concert Design’ is a practical approach to designing physical, visual and communicative aspects of choral music performance, for instance by creating formations, choreography and introductions.
The presentation begins with a brief overview of the ‘Concert Design Concept’ and continues as a workshop where practical tools on how to work on performance skills on stage, and how to stage musical pieces, are presented through exercises with participants of the workshop.
We claim that “Everybody can sing!”.
But are we always taking into account individuals and groups at risk of exclusion when designing, organising and evaluating an event or an activity? The Hearts in Harmony Network wants to create awareness by implementing inclusion concepts in choral or social events.
The lecture will focus on the results of the inclusion activities realized in different parts of Europe. You will learn that the choir community can really makes the difference when it comes to the inclusion of individuals and groups at risk of exclusion in our society.
When thinking about youth- or boys' choirs, often it is not a problem to find young singers who love to make music with their voices. But what happens when in their puberty other recreational stimuli become more important? Do we as choral conductors have a chance "against" those?
