Michael Gohl is a conductor and music pedagogue from Zurich. For more than 25 years he has been directing open singing events all over the world – in every possible setting and on every imaginable scale, including international choir festivals such as Europa Cantat, the World Symposium of Choral Music, Les Choralies and Zimriya Israel. Michael Gohl is an internationally sought-after workshop leader and choral competition juror. He teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts, is principal of Musikschule Zollikon and has co-edited numerous songbooks and music-teaching materials. A special focus of his work is on youth development and music education. He has won a number of awards with his youth choir Jugendchor Zürich, and has conducted and moderated some two hundred orchestral concerts for young people given by well-known orchestras including the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the Munich Philharmonic.

Conductors are trained to lead either a rehearsal OR a concert. But how can you lead an Open Singing – this strange mixture of concert AND rehearsal? How do you deal with the manifold expectations and types of participants? What kind of repertoire is recommended? What are methods, strategies and organisational key points?
The new song book „Sing along!“ by Michael Gohl and Jan Schumacher does not only provide a wide range of suitable songs, it also contains a full basket of tips and tricks. In this workshop Michael Gohl will also make references to the daily Open Singings in the festival.
