Hanne (°1980) studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Beside composition she also studied Bass Clarinet and Piano. In her second year she was a laureate, with her first orchestra work Mitä, in the Aquarius composition competition. Hanne composed for different chamber ensembles such as I Solisti del Vento, Oxalys, Enigma, Quince Quartet, Logos, and the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Flanders. Her music is played from Belgium over St Peterburgh, till Japan. Also the Flemish Radio Choir, Flagey, Theatre De Spiegel and the Philharmonie de Luxembourg commissioned Hanne new pieces.
Since 2010 Hanne is “composer in residence” of HERMES ensemble.
Hanne cherishes yet another passion as well : With her House of Music, she has been trying to help people belonging to deprived groups through music. Therefore she uses her own music method ManiMelo. In 2003 she earned an award by the Koning Boudewijn Foundation for her work with highly gifted children. After a year of intense coursework in psychology at the University of Brussels (VUB) she started as a music therapist in 2006. At the Guildhall School of Drama and Music in London she specialised in composition and community art. From 2007-2012 Hanne has been teaching at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in community art. Since 2012 she is projectleader of “The voice of our Memory”, a collaboration between House of Music, Expertise Center Dementia Flanders and Choir & Voice. In 2015 her book „Remembering through music” came out about improving the care of people with dementia through music. Also this year she is composing new music for Philippe Thuliot on accordeon and Blindman Quartet.
The “The Voice of our Memory” project is about singing with people with dementia and their family and care-givers. During this session we will see how to set up a contact choir with people with dementia and their family and friends. We will sing together and look at what is necessary when you are singing and leading a choir like this. We will experiment and transpose vocal training and singing together in another context. The repertoire will be explained and of course there will be tips to strengthen your network for this unique set-up.
