For more than 20 years I have been conducting St. Michael’s Boys’ Choir. This choir sings a lot of historical sacred music, including Gregorian Chant, using neums. Over time I started to notice that whenever we had to work more with Gregorian chant, the weaker singers started to have better pitch and phrasing more quickly. During this atelier I am going to introduce the work with Gregorian neums, show why it can be useful in working with choirs, and connect it with the Kodály relative solfeggio system.
