The atelier of Kálmán Balogh and the Karavan Familia aims to present the rich music traditions of the Gipsy minority living in the Carpathian Basin. They will focus on vocal traditions in their own mother tongue as well as traditional dances, instrumental and vocal music preserved by village Gipsy musicians and performed to the ethnic majority. They will also focus on the world-famous music style called ’Verbunkos’, typical music of the Gipsy town musicians, which emerged as a form of musical entertaiment for the bourgeois and inspired such great musicians as Haydn, Liszt and Brahms among others. The participants will have the opportunity to learn some melodies with the help of the orchestra which accompanies the atelier.
