KLAPA SINGING is Southern Croatian (Dalmatian) traditional (urban) multipart (three or four part) singing known by typical harmonization of the voices: the melodic line of the first tenor is regularly followed by a parallel melodic line in thirds below, bass features the harmonic functions of the tonic, dominant and subdominant, typically in root position while baritone defines the third note of the chord with recognizable cadence (VII - V).
Atelier will introduce a specificity of singing style of klapa singing through several examples of traditional klapa arrangements as well as newer (polyphonic) klapa arrangements of the contemporary repertoire written for the modern klapa.
