Concert: Efroni Choir, FRO FUN
Concert: Via Vitae, Coro Giovanile Italiano
Via Vitae (NO) Via Vitae is a choir with members from all over Norway that gathers five weekends a year for projects with concerts and church services. The choir was founded in 2004, and has always had both friendship and the joy of music as sources of their high-quality performances. Coro Giovanile Italiano (IT) The Italian Youth Choir, founded in 2003 by Feniarco, is a selection of young people led by renowned conductors. It is a choir that strives for excellence, as evidenced in the several tournées and by the award in 2014 at the Florilège Vocal de Tours.
Pécs welcomes Europa Cantat
Official Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony was a truly unique experience with the world premiere of the Te Deum by Aurél Tillai, the Hungarian Liszt-awarded conductor-composer. More than 200 choir singers, the Pannon Philarmonic Orchestra, the Mecsek Folk Dance Ensemble, the Zengő Ensemble, the German Singer Pur, the Italian Youth Choir and two ambassador choirs of the festival - the Béla Bartók Male Choir and the VoiSingers - contributed to the monumental show, performing well-known pieces like Kodály's Kállai Double and Brahms' 5th Hungarian Dance. The audience heard the symphonic world premiere of our very own festival song, Sing, sing, and had the chance to meet our official mascot - the main conductor of the festival: Sophie néni! The Cathedral facing the enormous square hosting the ceremony was dressed for the occasion with a magnificent light show. Director: Pál Göttinger (HU)
