The ensemble was found in 1950. Its wide repertory embraces a cappella works, oratorios and operas from Renaissance to the present day. A regular guest of international festivals. A large number of famous guest conductors have been in charge of the choir, including Eric Ericson, Yehudi Menuhin, Lamberto Gardelli, Giuseppe Patané, Helmuth Rilling, Antal Doráti, Sir Georg Solti, Ádám Fischer, Tamás Vásáry, Sir Simon Rattle. Since 2014 the chief conductor of the choir is Zoltán Pad.
